Under the scorching sun, Thai archaeologist Tanachaya Tiandee clambers through ruined pagodas in the ancient town of Si Thep, trying to unlock their mysteries - a task made harder because parts of the puzzle are missing thanks to decades of looting. The concerts aim to familiarize the international community with the richness of Saudi music and performing arts and to boost cultural exchange, which is one of the strategic goals of Vision 2030. The concert at the Metropolitan Opera House Theater was the third destination of the "Masterpieces of Saudi Music" performance, which started in Paris and moved to Mexico City before arriving in New York. "This national event is of great importance to us, as we look forward to a musical night that will showcase some of Saudi Arabia's rich cultural and musical heritage, a blend of traditional and folk music, as well as dances from across the Kingdom's 13 diverse regions, each with its costumes, customs and musical traditions," he said. Kicking off the concert, Saudi Music Commission CEO Paul Pacifico said the Saudi National Orchestra and Choir was the first national cultural asset to be developed by the Commission, part of several initiatives to establish a comprehensive and sustainable music sector in the Kingdom in line with Saudi Vision 2030. The concert featured 80 musicians from the Saudi National Orchestra and Choir. The event was attended by Prince Turki bin Faisal bin Abdulaziz, Saudi Ambassador to the US Princess Reema bint Bandar bin Sultan, and a large international audience. The event was held under the patronage of Saudi Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan and in partnership with the Saudi Theater and Performing Arts Commission. The Royal Commission for AlUla aims, through the summit, to highlight the various historical, geographical and heritage attractions, and to organize conferences that put AlUla on the map of the most important historical sites in the world, as well as to activate partnerships with international organizations, since this most important place and archaeological site tells the history of human civilizations. Speakers and participants will take part in exploratory trips to key heritage sites in AlUla, which will provide a global platform for scientific discussion and collaboration, as well as for tackling contemporary global archaeology issues to reach common visions and solutions inspired by cultural heritage. The summit seeks to use the insights gained from cultural heritage and scientific progress to the benefit of humanity, which contributes to achieving the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. It is one of the initiatives of the Royal Commission for AlUla, which is leading the process of comprehensive development of AlUla as a leading global destination of cultural and natural heritage. The summit will focus on archaeology, which comes up with discoveries around the world. More than 80 speakers and 300 experts, as well as individuals interested in antiquities and cultural heritage are set to take part in the summit’s sessions and dialogues, alongside dozens of government and non-governmental institutions, international organizations and media practitioners. The Royal Commission for AlUla Governorate issued the list of local and foreign speakers and participants scheduled to participate in the first "AlUla World Archeology Summit", which will be held from September 13 to 15.
